A small group of Southern Ground Hornbills, Bucorvus leadbeateri, was found under a Sausage Tree (Kigelia africana), in Maasai Mara National Reserve. This individual was perching on a small bump on the ground, calling other group members. Its red throat pouch and eye-ring are very conspicuous under direct sunlight. These hornbills are usually restricted in national parks and reserves, making them marked as "Vulnerable" in the IUCN Red List.
